Lithuania Meal and Social Evening (16th Feb 2018)

An enjoyable and successful evening which followed the programme shown below:

1. Welcome address (7:30pm).

2. Main Course of Kugelis (the national dish of Lithuania of potato/onion/bacon with a vegetarian option as well), and greens.

3. Dessert of either Lithaunian Napoleon cake or tinginys and ledai.

4. A toast to the people of Lithuania using the Lithuanian national drink (Mead or a non-alcoloholic option of poppy seed milk).

The idea was to also showcase some Lithuania culture so we had Lithuanian folk music from a CD playing during the meal also a poem was also read out prior to the toast, 'A Song of Life' by Salomeja Neris. There were photos of the Lithuanian landscape that we hoped to project on the wall during the meal but unfortunately the technology didn't quite work for us! And to get a flavour of Lithuanian art we approached the Embassy and their Cultural Attaché, Justė Kostikovaitė, who suggested six artworks. We selected three and made A3 copies to put on the wall for people to enjoy during the meal:

After the toast  Andy Taurins, the Chair of the Wales Baltic Society, gave an excellent speech (which included a 'thank you' on behalf of Lithuania's Ambassador Renatas Norkusand to Cardiff For Europe for marking Lithuania's National Day and 100 year anniversary).

The event was attended by members of the Wales Baltic Society as well and following the meal evening, members of the Wales Baltic Society kindly emailed to pass on their thanks to Cardiff For Europe:

Rita Price said "Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the celebrations on 16th February......Thank you very much to you and your helpers for making it such a memorable occasion. Wishing you and your Society the best."
