Ireland Meal and Social Evening (Sunday, 8th April)

16 guests attended our evening to celebrate both our friendships with Ireland and it's terrific culture.

The itinerary followed the previous:

1. Welcome address.

2. Main Course of Irish Stew (lamb/beef & Guiness/vegetarian options) with soda bread (also a vegetarian option).

3. Dessert of Irish apple cake with ice cream or custard.

4. A toast to the people of Ireland using the Irish national drink, whiskey with (a non-alcoholic option of St Patrick's Day punch.

5. A short talk on Ireland by Patrick Tobin.

We showcased some Irish art and a W. B. Yeats poem was read out.

Also whilst people enjoyed the meal an overhead projector was used to display landscape photos and CDs of Irish folk music were played.

To quote one guest, "...we had a fantastic evening."

As before, the idea was to also showcase some Irish culture so we had Irish folk music from a CD playing during the meal also a poem was also read out prior to the toast, 'He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven' by W. B. Yeats. There were photos of the Irish landscape that we projected on the wall during the meal. And to get a flavour of Irish art Niamh NiIceadh suggested four artworks which are shown below. We made A2 copies to put on the wall for people to also enjoy during the meal:
