Share a ‘message for Europe on Europe Day’ on Facebook or Twitter using #EuropeDay #TogetherForEurope and link to @Cardiff4EU and @WalesForEurope.

Read the  Message from Wales for Europe on Europe Day from our Chair, Helen Wales.

We are also stepping up our campaign to #ExtendTheTransition.

Time is short. Parliament must amend the Withdrawal Act before 30th June to extend the transition period.

Wales for Europe is calling on everyone to stand up, speak out and call for an extension to the transition period. We need businesses, charities, trade unions and individuals to make the case to their MPs. In particular, we need to make it clear to Conservative MPs in Wales that extending the transition period to allow time to focus on Coronavirus and avoid putting even more strain on our economy is the only responsible thing to do.

January

Fri 31st & Sat 1st Feb

Information about our plans for 31st/ 1st: shareable events will be coming very soon, but here are the planned activities.

Cardiff for Europe will be holding a series of events and actions to celebrate our European identity and to show solidarity with our European friends on Friday 31st January and Saturday 1st February.

On the weekend when the UK is set to officially leave the EU, we will be joining together to make it clear that:

We will always be European

Our European friends, neighbours and colleagues are welcome here

All are welcome at these events. We want to extend a particularly warm welcome to friends from EU27 countries to thank you for the contribution that you make to life in Cardiff and South Wales.

Friday 31st January

6.30pm: Vigil for Peace in Europe - 6.30pm, Cenotaph, Alexandra Gardens, Cathays Park: a chance to reflect on 75 years of peace in Europe.

What Happened:

Saturday 1st February

11am: EU Flag Flash Mob: wave your EU flags at 11am to show solidarity with our EU27 friends. Meet outside Cardiff Castle, main entrance on Castle Street. Please gather at 10.50am so we are ready for 11am on the dot. Hide your flag if possible and wait for the signal.

11.15: Always European Rally, Nye Bevan Statue, Queen Street. We’ll be gathering to share speeches and songs to make it clear that we will always be European and our European friends, neighbours and colleagues are welcome here. Please bring flags from EU27 countries.

National actions

Wear Blue for Europe: social media campaign organised by Wales for Europe. Take a picture of yourself wearing blue for the EU on 31st January and use the hashtag #WearBlueForEU. Tag us @cardiff4EU

The Great EU Flag Hang: UK-wide campaign. Fly your EU flag on 31st January and use the hashtag #flytheflag

Light a Candle for Europe: UK-wide campaign. Light a candle and place it in your window at 11pm on 31st January.

Whilst we deeply regret the UK’s departure from the EU, these actions are pro-European more than anti-Brexit. We want to make it clear that we are European by geography and by culture - and that we believe in a united, peaceful Europe.

Tuesday, 7th - What Now? Meeting to discuss the future of the campaign.
